Moki Canyon is the first major side canyon north of Halls Crossing and Bullfrog. It extends eastward past Dan, Louise, and Ran canyons about four miles before forking at its head. The northern fork extends up North Gulch and the main right fork continues up Moki Canyon. Its upper reaches are visible from Utah 276 leading into Halls Crossing.
Moki, also ΓÇ£Moqui,ΓÇ¥ is a Hopi word meaning ΓÇ£dead.ΓÇ¥ Before more was known about the Anasazi, the term ΓÇ£MoquiΓÇ¥ was used to describe just about anything of prehistoric nature found in Glen Canyon and elsewhere in the Southwest. The canyon was filled with prehistoric sites and contained some of the best evidence of the early inhabitants of the canyon.
The canyon is sandy and generally broad and can be quite crowded in summer.
